DJI Thermal Analysis Tool 3 vs Heliovue

By 4Tech RealVision. Published . Updated .

Already using DJI Thermal Analysis Tool 3? The question is what you still need to assemble after reviewing the images: source evidence, mapped locations, inspection notes, and a deliverable you can explain to a client.

Does DJI Thermal Analysis Tool 3 already export reports?

Yes. DJI’s guide describes temperature measurements, annotations, and PDF or DOC exports, including batch report export for selected images. You can customize the report logo and header. If those exports meet the job and your existing reporting process works, you may not need another workflow.

When should I try Heliovue for a solar flight?

Try Heliovue’s beta if you want to evaluate mapping and candidate review on one compatible solar dataset. The beta is for pilots and small inspection teams. Review georeferenced RGB and thermal maps, candidate hotspots and PID-like patterns, and available source evidence before sharing the inspection PDF.

What still needs an inspector’s judgment?

You need to check dataset suitability, assess the evidence, and explain uncertainties to your client. Mapping coverage and panel assignment depend on the capture. Heliovue’s PDF is IEC 62446-3-styled, not certification. We have no measured time-saving benchmark for this comparison.

What is the difference between an image report and a flight review?

The practical difference is the context you need around each observation. A report built from selected thermal images may suit a job where the inspector already knows the locations and has a clear way to communicate them. A flight review also asks how observations relate across the mapped area, which source evidence supports each candidate, and where coverage or location remains uncertain.

Do not choose solely because both tools produce a PDF. Read the document you need to deliver, then list what you must add after exporting it: site context, references to the source images, inspection notes, location explanations, or follow-up questions. That remaining work is the part to evaluate. Heliovue’s candidate-review workflow is worth trying when mapping and connecting the available evidence are central to your solar inspection service.

Can I use DJI’s tool and Heliovue in the same evaluation?

Yes, you can evaluate each workflow with suitable originals, but this page does not claim a direct integration or identical results. Before opening the dataset in DJI’s tool, duplicate the original radiometric files and matching RGB imagery. Use only the working copy in DJI’s tool and preserve an untouched copy for Heliovue. The linked DJI guide warns on page 9 that Save overwrites the original R-JPEG; keeping the same files available is not enough to preserve their original state. For Heliovue, confirm that the solar dataset is compatible before arranging beta access. Do not substitute an exported image, a screenshot, or a completed report for the original input files.

Use your existing analysis process as a reference for the questions you need to answer. Then inspect what Heliovue makes available for the same flight: maps, candidate locations, source context where available, review decisions, and the inspection PDF. If an expected detail is absent, record it as a limitation of that evaluation. Do not assume that two displays use identical measurements or that a different-looking result establishes which tool is more accurate.

How should I assess a candidate that needs more context?

Check the underlying imagery and location context before deciding what the candidate means. Heliovue flags candidate hotspots and PID-like thermal patterns; those labels are screening results, not confirmed electrical diagnoses. Automated priority helps organize review but does not establish a repair decision.

As an illustrative situation, suppose a candidate is visible in a thermal map crop while its panel assignment is ambiguous. A useful review records what can be seen and what cannot be established. For runs with complete evidence, Heliovue provides source-image context and decisions to retain, dismiss, request field verification, or mark a candidate not assessable. The inspector must still decide whether the evidence is sufficient for the particular report. A marker or an export alone does not resolve uncertainty.

What should I compare before replacing my current report process?

Compare the evidence trail, the remaining assembly work, and the clarity of the handoff. Start with one job whose expected deliverables you understand, then use this checklist:

There is no published head-to-head accuracy or time-saving benchmark here. A faster export is not necessarily a faster inspection if evidence still needs substantial review. Likewise, retaining your current process is reasonable if it already answers the client’s questions clearly. Evaluate the complete handoff rather than selecting a tool from the appearance of a sample document.

Can I look at a Heliovue report before signup?

Yes. Download the three-page illustrative sample PDF to inspect the format. It uses fictional data and schematic evidence and is not a real inspection or a production export. To assess actual outputs, the beta offers help processing one existing compatible solar dataset and reviewing the results, in exchange for one 20-minute feedback call.

What is this comparison based on?

DJI capabilities above are from the official Tool 3 user guide, version 1.6, pages 3 and 9, checked October 5, 2026. This is a workflow comparison, not a head-to-head accuracy test.

Questions before choosing a workflow

Does DJI Thermal Analysis Tool 3 already make reports?

Yes. Its guide documents PDF and DOC report exports, including batch export for selected images. Consider whether you also need a mapped workflow for reviewing candidates across a solar flight.

Will my existing DJI flight work in Heliovue?

Model support alone is not enough. Bring original radiometric thermal images and matching RGB photos. We confirm dataset suitability by email before arranging beta access.

Can I send the Heliovue PDF straight to my client?

Review the evidence and limitations first. Candidate anomalies are screening results, not confirmed faults. A qualified inspector still owns the inspection judgment.
